Steenberg Golf Club

Discover Steenberg Golf Club: A Masterpiece by Peter Matkovich

Designed by South Africa's leading contemporary golf architect, Peter Matkovich, Steenberg Golf Club is a true gem. Matkovich's design philosophy, "listening to the land," is evident throughout the course, which was meticulously laid out in the mid-1990s.

The course required significant shaping, including the creation of a small stream to manage excess water from the mountain, which flows through and influences many holes.

Steenberg Golf Club is part of a historic estate that features a 17th-century wine farm, a luxurious hotel, and residential properties. The course winds through the Steenberg vineyards, offering a diverse golfing experience. Players will navigate from pine-treed parkland, highlighted by the stunning par-four 3rd hole with Silvermine Mountain as a backdrop, to wetlands, where the 7th hole stands out as a feature hole.

The layout then transitions to a heathland section with waste bunkers flanking fairways, such as at holes 9 and 12, before returning to parkland, with the creek coming into play on the final two holes.

The standout holes on each nine are both par threes. The 181-yard 7th hole features an elevated green surrounded by a lake on three sides, with a horseshoe-shaped bunker separating the green from the water.

The 203-yard 14th hole boasts one of the largest greens in South Africa, nearly 85 yards long, and is encircled by six enormous bunkers, providing a challenging buffer between the green and thick local shrubbery.

Experience the beauty and challenge of Steenberg Golf Club, a must-play destination for golfers from the United States and Europe. Enjoy the perfect blend of history, luxury, and world-class golf in the heart of South Africa's wine country.
